I read your thoughts and it gave me courage.
I switched to mac after spending 2 months with Windows 8.

I looooove it.
I wish I did sooner, but fear of loosing windows apps prevented my decision.
Now I have office and adobe suite and all the apps I did before on Windows (I am Italian web designer). Most of the best apps are multi platform anyway.

And it works great, thank you and thank you Apple.
Kind regards from Italia

I know the email autocomplete thing is false. Mine will suggest email addresses for people not in my address book. And Messages has a the same features as iChat with a different UI. You can even get the old contacts window and interface back by using the right click menu on the dock icon. Don't take people's word for stuff.

I have a Mac. Switched a year ago. What I notice is that Apple is notorious for NOT fixing things in a timely fashion. There are little bugs or inconsistencies that Apple lets go sometimes for years. Example: Airplay to Apple TV is buggy. Often the sound won't work without a command line restart of Core Audio. It has been an issue for three years.

Microsoft is much faster at fixing bugs in the system like this. Apple actually is really slow. The point of the article is that Apple really doesn't do much with OS X, so it hasn't changed much.

*yawn*

Anyone that has been tinkering with OSs for a while will understand they all have their benefits. As a web app developer, I run Arch Linux w Gnome Shell 3.10 on my personal computer and my company provides me with an iMac at work.

For an experienced user, Mac OS is a unix prison. All the cool tinkering and customizations I love about my linux build are usually locked down in a Mac.

When it comes to family members and non-tech people who ask for my recommendation on products though, I usually push them towards Apple. Apple products are essentially tech-training wheels.

I rant much about Mac these days. The iOS creep is destroying what was once a good OS.

Gatekeeper gets in my face about installing Eclipse. I think this is a obvious ploy to scare people into only buying from the Mac app store, giving Apple 30% of developers' revenue. Bad Apple! I disable Gatekeeper. Update to Mavericks, and it reenabled Gatekeeper to get in my face again >:-| Disable it again.

Oh no, Mail.app no longer autocompletes addresses is in the TO field like it did in Lion. I actually have to add the address to my address book before it will autocomplete. Really annoying.

Used to use iChat. Everyone said Messages sucks. I took their word on it and installed Adium.

Actually got fed up with Apple watching them blowing money on patent suits instead of improving their products. Bought a $250 chromebook, installed linux on it, after 15 years using Macs, no more Apple hardware at home. Buh bye!
